When we think of our hair we usually forget about the scalp. We cut our hair, dye our hair, style our hair but we tend to give very little thought about the scalp.
Our scalp is like a root, it's the base of whether we will have healthy or unhealthy hair. Taking care of our scalp should be the first priority to giving the rest of our hair a fighting chance.
5 ways to make sure your scalp is looking hot...
Our scalp is exposed to so many chemicals, most of them we get with shampoos that are made with toxic ingredients. There are very dangerous chemicals that consumer products are made with, mostly because it's cheaper and easier to use the chemicals instead of natural ingredients. Make sure you look into what your using for products. Pull apart every large ingredient name and make sure they are safe!
When your getting your hair colored it should never tingle. Most people that have scalp problems don't even know it. When you get your hair colored and you feel a tingly feeling it's a sign that your scalp could be very dry. The dry scalp will only worsen with dandruff, inflammation and damaged hair follicles.
Exfoliate your scalp. Just like we use exfoliation on our face, our scalp needs it too! For heavier build up, use a detox shampoo with salicylic acid in it.
Use a conditioner! Sometimes we don't use a conditioner because we think it will weigh down our hair. If you feel like your conditioner is to heavy, you may need to ask your stylist for another option suited for your hair type. Conditioner helps to seal our hair shaft to protect it from environmental damage and stress.
Vitamin D is one of the easiest vitamins to get yet it remains the most common vitamin deficiency. Vitamin D plays a major role in hair production and growth. When our body is lacking in this vital nutrient it can cause poor connections to our hair follicles and we may start to see thinning hair.
Every part of our body is connected, each part plays a role in keeping us look our best. When one chain in our system is broken we will start to see others that are lacking. Make sure you keep your scalp healthy!

ALWAYS WEAR SUNSCREEN
The skin around our eyes is very thin and prone to sun hyper-pigmentation. By using sunscreen you protect the delicate skin. Make sure you use a formula thats non drippy so it doesn't irritate your eyes.
USE AN EYE CREAM WITH COLLAGEN
Look for an eye cream with stimulates the synthesis of collagen. The collagen will make your skin less transparent which will minimize dark circles. We recommend JUVENATE EYE BALM BY DAVINES. It will reduce eye puffiness and fade dark circles.
Wash your face with cool water. When you use hot water on your face it increases puffiness and will accentuate dark circles.
Use a soft peach eyeliner along your waterline. This technique will brighten your eyes and make dark circles less noticeable. You can use one quick swipe or layer a second time for increased effect.
Share with us your tips on how to get rid of dark circles under your eyes!
Let's be honest, most mornings it seems that we are strapped for time but still need to look presentable. My mornings seem to be strapped for time more frequently than not. It can sometimes be real chaos as your trying to get out the door. Tight schedules make it hard to even get breakfast, so spending time on a full face of makeup doesn't always make perfect sense.
I've been forced to get really good at getting my makeup done in a pinch. I thought I would share with you my 5-minute makeup routine so you can look presentable without much time at all.....
Even on the busiest of mornings I don't skip this step. It's the most important part of having good looking skin all day. I want to have my skin looking hydrated and healthy. I first use Davines Juvenate-Pro Booster, this gives my skin the brightness and hydration I need for all day. It also reduces the appearance of wrinkles and age spots. After I apply the booster, I put on Davines Juvenate Pro Rich Cream, this is a lotion that gives my skin antioxidants and protects my skin in the cold and windy climates. These two things are the base of my routine in the morning, I never skip on either.
I usually go for a lighter foundation but recently in the winter month's I have been using Make Up For Ever Foundation. The coverage is great and very easy to apply. Once my foundation is applied I like to cover any redness or dark circles I might have. For concealer I usually jump between the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer or Mirabella. Countouring is a nice thing to do but save that for the days you have more time.
Blush is my saving grace. It leaves my skin with the perfect flush for the day. I usually use Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush, it's fast to apply and gives me a healthy glow.
I always start by sculpting my brows! I am in love with the NARS Kalamata Brow Perfector, it gives me a soft application while still defining my brows. I pencil my brows in by following the natural direction of the hair, to give them a soft finish. The last but most important is the NARS Brow Gel, it's a clear base with a strong hold. I have very unruly brows, the gel keeps them looking clean all day.
If you know me at all, I am a girl in love with a bright lip. If you tend to go lighter on the cheeks and eyes you can opt for a darker lip to finish your look. I tend to use lipstick that has a good longevity, so I don't need to reapply throughout the day. I have MAC Pro Longwear lipstick, MAC has great colors and they last all day. I recently got some lipstick from Bite Cosmetics, it's very hydrating and also smells great.
Now with a little practice you can apply your makeup in under 5 minutes.
How do you save time in the morning? We would love to hear your comments or tips!
WITH THE NEW YEAR UNDER WAY, EVERYONE IS LOOKING TO MAKE CHANGES IN THEIR LIFE.
HERE IS YOUR 2016 HAIR RESOLUTIONS
Be Smarter when purchasing hair tools. Using heat tools with a ceramic or tourmaline plates will allow you to properly adjust the temperature. Having the proper tools for your hair will also decrease the amount of damage you might be doing to your hair. Make sure you ask your stylist the proper heat setting to ensure any future damage.
Use a thermal protectant! Without using a heat protectant your hair is at serious risk for damage. It creates damage along the hair strands that can cause breakage and uneven color. To prevent the heat from damaging the cuticle layer of your hair, we recommend MELU HAIR SHIELD BY DAVINES.
Even if your growing your hair out longer it's best to keep your ends refreshed, so the old hair isn't prone to breakage.
Short to medium length hair you should be trimming every 4-7 weeks. For medium to long hair you should be trimming every 6-10 weeks.
MONTHLY CONDITIONING TREATMENTS
You can schedule deep conditioning treatments with your stylist, or do a home treatment. In salon treatments tend to last longer because of the active ingredients in the products. We recommend using NOURISHING HAIR BUILDING PAK BY DAVINES.
LISTEN TO YOUR STYLIST RECOMMENDATIONS, THEY HAVE GONE THROUGH YEARS OF TRAINING AND KNOW THE BEST OPTIONS FOR YOUR HAIR! REMEMBER THAT YOUR HAIR IS AN INVESTMENT, THE MORE YOUR PUT INTO IT, THE HAPPIER YOU WILL BE WITH THE RESULTS.
What you put into your body is just as important as what you put onto it. When your body is deficient in vital nutrients, our hair can sometimes take a turn for the worse. At times, our hair is the very first sign of nutritional deficiencies in your body. If you are suffering from hair thinning or loss, I would encourage you to look into your eating habits first.
TOP 3 FOODS FOR THINNING HAIR
1. SALMON- This nutrient rich food has very high amounts of Vitamin D, which can help combat hair loss or thinning. We get Vitamin D from the sun, but there are also many foods that contain this vital nutrient. Salmon is also very high in Omega 3's, which help with shine and luster.
2. BELL PEPPERS- These little gems can be overlooked at times for nutritional benefits. Bell Peppers contain very high amounts of Vitamin C. Can you believe that they actually have higher amounts of Vitamin C than Oranges! When peppers are allowed to ripen you can maximize the amount of Vitamin C in them. Make sure you don't overcook, the heat can damage valuable nutrients.
3. WALNUTS- Walnuts contain the highest amounts of omega 6 fatty acids. If that wasn't good enough they are also high in protein and zinc. Walnuts help to strengthen and reduce hair loss. If your usually on the run, they can be a great snack!
Hair is the fastest natural growing tissue in the human body. When we are lacking in vital nutrients our hair usually shows the first signs. If you are interested in learning more about what nutrients you are lacking in your hair, please send us a message!

It started with a dream.
Born in 2013, we dreamt of creating a space that embraces diversity, challenges our strengths, and provides a high end salon experience. Over the past few years our business has changed, and in the process has become extraordinary. Although we may adapt and evolve, what we believe in and who we are won't.
Defined in the english language as"to not hesitate or be fearful, to be courageous and daring, to break rules, venture into the unknown/imaginative; to move forward beyond the usual limits." These risks are what make Bold Salon an amazing place to work and visit.
We use the hand mirror as a metaphor for self-reflection and awareness, beauty, and style. It is both the first and the last tool one interacts with when going to a salon. Our reflection in the mirror can sometimes be equally as beautiful as it can be deceiving. At Bold Salon we want you to look in the mirror and feel beautiful, inside and out.
A mirror reflects light. That light captures the unique characteristics that form our beauty. Early humans used water and rocks as a mirror to look at their reflections. The first hand mirrors came to be in the 1830s. The hand mirror was commonly used for grooming or to view characteristics closely.
Anyone can open a business, put a few chairs in a space and call it "a salon". What most people fail to posses is a set of values. The passion, strength, and courage to stand by their beliefs to create something bigger than just a space. We never intended to have a space, we wanted a vision; a reflection of who we are. We wanted a place where people left feeling ecstatic about themselves. When you feel "Bold" about yourself, it's contagious.
You have the choice to project a positive, or negative, reflection of yourself. So choose wisely, because is always watching.
Summer is finally here and although we love that warm sunshine and beach days, lets be honest it can be downright hard on our hair. The team at Bold Salon has come up with a nice cocktail of products to help those frizzy ends to keep you looking great all summer long.
1. Oi Shampoo and Conditioner
This will help give your hair softness, shine and body.
2. Oi Milk
Adds shine, detangles, controls frizz, moisturizes hair, gives body and a great heat protector if you blow dry.
3. OI All In One Milk
After using these products you can feel free to let you hair air dry or pull it back in a loose braid.
You don't need to stress about having those dry ends in all your beach selfies! Stop into Bold Salon and have one of our experienced staff help you stay beautiful all summer long.
